HALLWAY RUNNERS

CHIC STYLES for STAIRS and HALLS

As the popularity of hardwood floors has increased, so too has the demand for staircase and hallway runners.

Harry Ross, owner of the Area Rug Store says, “It’s one of our best-kept secrets. While we’ve been selling them for years, there’s more popularity and more interest in these products for sound-proofing, safety and beauty.”

While previous runners were mostly traditional styles, the latest brands run the gamut in terms of selection with looks including traditional, transitional, and modern.

Mr. Ross adds that 75% of area rugs are fabricated of synthetic materials with the most popular being polypropylene which
resembles and feels much like wool.

“Polypropylene is the most inert material with many benefits. It won’t fade in the sun, won’t fade when cleaned and is extremely cleanable because it won’t support a stain.

Unlike wool, it allows you to clean it with a cleaning agent which is effective in reviving the appearance of both stair and hall runners.”

The Area Rug Store also sells various types of undercushions and underlays that are appropriate for use on both hallways and staircases.

The cost of rugs and runners is determined according to thickness and density. Prices range from $10 to $50 per lineal foot.

“Most of the runners we’ve been talking about are pre-established Patterns and types in 27 inch and 32 inch widths. While not used often, stair rods are available,” says Mr. Ross.

Thanks to the store’s expert in-house installer with 40 years of experience, who is skilled in techniques that involve corners, wedge-shaped stairs, rounds and 45 degree turns, the finished look can approach an upholstered effect that makes seams all but invisible.

Mr. Ross invites customers to check out the staircase and hallways selection at the Area Rug Store located at 1512 St. James Street.

While previous runners were mostly traditional styles, the latest brands run the gamut in terms of selection with looks including traditional, transitional, and modern.

“We are always glad to come out to your home, take some measurements and price the job. And of course, all of our estimates are free.”
